Renewable Energy and Sustainable Power FAQs

What is a sustainable energy degree?

A degree in sustainable energy, sometimes called a sustainability degree, is a degree that covers topics related to the generation, distribution and research of sustainable energy from water, wind, the sun or renewable sources like biomatter. In the case of our Associate Degree in Engineering Technology with a specialization in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Power, our degree program aims to prepare you to work with and understand the various technologies that generate and distribute renewable energies in an efficient manner.

Are sustainable and renewable energy the same?

Despite often being used interchangeably, there is a difference between sustainable and renewable energy. Renewable energy refers to resources that can be replenished in a reasonable time, like crops, wood and other biomatter. Sustainable energy is derived from sources that cannot be depleted, such as wind power and solar energy. Hydroelectricity is often considered a sustainable energy generation method, though water can be depleted in the event of severe droughts caused by climate change.

What degrees are best for pursuing a career in renewable energy?

In general, the best degrees for people looking to work toward a career in renewable energy are engineering degrees with a specialization in renewable and sustainable energy. DeVry's Associate Degree in Engineering Technology Program with a specialization in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Power can be a great place to get started as this degree program gives you the opportunity to build your engineering skills while learning about specific considerations for green energy.
